Restricting IP addresses on your website can be an additional security measure that can enhance your information in several ways:

  1. Limiting access to unwanted users

    • IP addresses can serve as a mechanism to restrict access to your site. If you have a known IP address that only you or authorized users share, you can limit access to your site only to recognized and authorized IP addresses.
  2. Protection against security vulnerabilities

    • Monitoring and restricting IP addresses attempting to connect to your site can protect it from common security attacks such as brute force attempts or DDoS attacks.
  3. Performance improvement

    • Limiting IP addresses that are irrelevant to your site can improve server performance and prevent unnecessary load from non-genuine users.
  4. Preventing transients and spam attacks

    • IP addresses that are unwanted can be a source of attacks and transients. Restricting them can prevent unwanted advertising and desired advertising attacks.
  5. Limiting your exposure

    • If you know where the bots or malicious programs are coming from, you can limit their importance to specific IP addresses and make it easier for your system by restricting access from those addresses.

To restrict access to your site using the Wordfence plugin, include several steps in the following guide:

  1. Install the Wordfence plugin

    • If you haven’t installed Wordfence yet, do so from the WordPress control panel. You can find the plugin in the WordPress plugin store or download it from the official Wordfence website.
  2. Wordfence Settings

    • After installation, go to the Wordfence control panel. Select “Firewall” from the top menu of Wordfence.
  3. Limiting IP addresses

    • In the “Firewall” tab, you will find an option called “Rate Limiting.” When you go to manually command to restrict IP addresses, you can reach the “Blocking” option for two entries to a specific IP address.
  4. Adding IP addresses to the blocklist

    • In the “Blocking” screen, you have the option to add IP addresses or IP address ranges that you want to block. Simply enter the desired addresses and click “Add to Blocklist.”
  5. Additional options

    • Wordfence provides additional options for access restriction, such as Rate Limiting, limiting access to important pages, and more. Explore the settings to tailor the plugin to your specific needs.
  6. Save Changes

    • Don’t forget to save the changes you made to activate the restrictions.

Generally, Wordfence can provide the appropriate tools for restricting IP addresses and protecting your site from unwanted access or attacks.

It is important to note that restricting IP addresses alone is not a substitute for strong and stable information security.
